The University of Arkansas: Full of Tradition and Innovation
There’s a well-known saying, “Everything’s bigger in Texas.” And perhaps that’s why so many Texas students flock to the University of Arkansas. The massive campus feels even larger by being flanked on all four sides by shops, restaurants and off-campus housing. Walking along the senior walk, where every graduate’s name is etched in stone, one can’t help but feel the sense of tradition that permeates every aspect of Arkansas.
While its most famous graduate might be Senator J. William Fulbright, it’s clear the most prominent benefactor to the university and surrounding area known as NW Arkansas is the Walton family. Old regal buildings now befriend modern halls and residences. The established agricultural focus is now complemented by a robust arts offering. (Note: Alice Walton’s now famous art museum, Crystal Bridges, is doubling in size and is just 30 miles north, making it easily accessible for internships and cultural field trips.)
Perhaps most emblematic of the shift UArk has made in the last several decades can be seen in the university’s number one major: Supply Chain Management within the Sam Walton School of Business.
