The University of Mississippi, “Ole Miss,” And Its Southern Charm
School profile by CIT Consultant, Anne Weber
The Ole Miss Rebels are a generous bunch—financially and culturally.
Located 60 miles south of Memphis in the storybook town of Oxford, the University of Mississippi lives up to its reputation as a place to enjoy the best four years of one’s life. Ole Miss has a high acceptance rate, and an equally generous approach to threshold merit aid computed by GPA + test scores.
While the most popular majors fall within marketing and digital communications, the nursing and pharmacy programs stand out. Nursing students can pursue a 2+2 or 4+1 pathway to a BSN and have ample opportunities for clinical placement in the nearby hospitals. The Ole Miss Pharmacy grad program is top-notch and the undergrad pre-pharmacy B.S. benefits from its halo.
But what truly makes Ole Miss special is its athletics and fandom. Whether it’s football, baseball, track and field, softball, gymnastics or any of its other highly competitive SEC teams, Ole Miss Rebels are constantly cheered on by Hotty Toddy-shouting students and alumni. Campus and town become one on game day as fans line the walk to The Grove and through the Walk of Champions. Don’t expect to see students on campus before 10 a.m., but they do emerge, they’ll each greet you with a smile.
